Museum is again a dream
The old mental hospital building which EMAA has planned on restoring as a museum has been converted into the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. EMAA is continuing to protest against this. We were hopeful that our actions would give us good results and even though we have visited this ministry and met with Mr. Vehbi, nothing has changed. We could not convince them that Nicosia desperately needed an ‘ Archeology Museum Centre’. The main reason that we could not get what we want was due to the conflict between two ministers. Bayraktar middle school was perfect for this museum but this was in the hand of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, therefore, conflict between ministers of the same party occured, we could not get what we has hoped for.
EMAA has requested to meet with the new minister Mr. Sanlidag, however, received no response. It’s all a matter of having a government who does not know what it’s doing or what it want. Is it really a dream to expect an archeology museum from such a government? We can’t help but ask ourselves this question.
