SPECIFICATIONS OF THE EXHIBITION

Objective:

1.  In the scope of “İstanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture” programme, The Little Land Fish Exhibition will be organized with the support of İstanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency with an aim to provide Cyprus-resident artists from Turkish Cypriot, Greek Cypriot or other national origins with a platform to discuss, interpret, and artistically express the relationship, tension, and dialogue between the island and the continent; to challenge the established and dynamic convictions regarding culture and arts; to set up personal perspectives on quests that involve a critical and analytical view, and on recent theories and methods; and to introduce  these works of art  to the audiences in İstanbul. 

Terms and Conditions of Participation:
2. The exhibition is open for all Cyprus-resident  artists who are older than 23 years.
3. The exhibition welcomes individual or group participation.
4. Interested participants may apply to the exhibition with 3 works at most, which are produced in  any technique, materials and presentation, reflecting their own ways of expression. 
6. The content of the works be related to the exhibition’s objective and concepts. Interested participants are free to interpret these concepts, suggest new approaches and discuss the subject.
7. To apply, the “application form”, attached in the specifications, should be filled in the mother tongue of the interested participant and in English with photographs of the work(s), as well as a short biography - not longer than a page -, information about the work, such as documents and visual material.
The specifications and application forms may be downloaded from the websites of EMAA (www.emaacyprus.org) and EKATE (www.ekatecy.com).
8. All the information related to the project and the works should be presented in CD-Rom/DVD format, as well as printed on A4 paper – each page should include the interested participant’s name and surname – and these should be submitted in a folder. If a special construction/installation is needed to exhibit the works, the drawings showing the front and bird’s eye views of the works in the setting, the weight, size, required equipment  and other related information should also be included. Written documents should be submitted in Microsoft Office 97 or a newer version, visual images in jpg format in high resolution and in 3 copies. Audio and video files should be played in “windows media player”. For the works, which will be presented as a performance or video, information on the duration and a short script should be submitted, as well as a copy of the work on DVD [for the videos].

9. The participants are recommended to present 3-5 samples of their previous works they have produced in the last three years as well, if they have.

10. Those sending their works and project proposals for the exhibition are considered to be accepting the specifications and terms and conditions of participation exactly.

Deadline for Application :

12. Interested participants are expected to deliver their application documents (1 copy printed on A4 format and 4 soft copies of CD) to the contact offices or the coordinators by mail or by hand at 16.00 on Monday, April 2, 2010 at the latest.

 Selection :

13. The exhibition will be organised by the collaborative work of a curatorial team, which will be responsible for the selection of the artworks. The curatorial team’s decision is final.

15. The selection by the curatorial team will be announced to the artists and the public on the websites of the associations and in the press on April 26, Monday.

Display and Insurance:

16. The selected works will be displayed in the Istanbul Antrepo exhibition venue between May and June, 2010.

17. After June 2010, the selected works will travel to different venues in Istanbul according to Istanbul 2010 Portable Art Project content, for a year

18. The selected works will be insured and kept under the responsibility of EMAA & EKATE and İstanbul 2010 Portable Art Project Office for one year, for the entire exhibition period of ‘Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture’.

19.  At the end of exhibition year, displayed works will be removed under the supervision of the coordination team and project coordinator, and transported to Cyprus in the shortest time after the ending of the exhibition. After the works arrive in the application centre, the artists will be called to collect their works within 10 days. The project coordination will not be liable for the loss or damage of the works that will not be collected in the stated time.

Catalogue:
20. A catalogue that introduces the content of the exhibition including  artists’ short biographies,  photos of the works and related texts will be published and delivered both in Turkish and English.

21. EMAA & EKATE will reserve the right to use the information in application CDs for the preparation of the exhibition and catalogue, as well as press bulletins and various promotion activities for 5 years.

22. The artists and art groups whose works are exhibited will be presented a participation certificate and a catalogue.

Other:
23. The project coordination will take necessary steps to provide the equipment required for the exhibition, but it cannot guarantee the provision of highly specialised technological equipment that may be required for special projects. When proposing their projects, interested participants should consider the venue’s displaying facilities and transportation conditions, paying attention to present portable works.

24. The coordination team of the exhibition might use the works’ visuals in various media, without paying copyright, for the purposes of announcing and promoting the exhibition.

25. The application CD will not be returned, but kept in the archives of EMAA & EKATE.

26.  If missing or wrong information is found out in the application CDs, EMAA & EKATE will not be liable, reserving the right not to accept the application on this reason alone.

27.  The programme of the panels and conferences to be held in parallel with the exhibition, will be announced later.
